Room 2 Homework
Dear Parents,
Each month a “Reading Calendar” will be sent home. When your child reads to you or with you for fifteen minutes, he/she should color the date box on the “Reading Calendar.” If your child reads a total of 20 days during the month they will be given a reading award. Completed Reading Calendars are DUE at the end of each month!
Your child will be bringing home a “Book in a Bag” every Monday-Thursday night. This book will be at your child’s individual reading level. Please listen to your child read the book. Reading this book will count towards your child’s daily reading requirement. Please return the “Book in the Bag” the following morning. More information will be included with the “Book in the Bag”. The “Book in a Bag” program will begin the first week of September.
We also ask that your child complete 30 minutes of Lexia Core 5 each week. Lexia is a computer language arts program that reinforces language arts skills. If your child does not have access to a computer or tablet at home, please let us know and we will provide time for your child to complete this assignment in class.
In addition to your child’s monthly reading calendar, we ask that you also take a few minutes each night to review your child’s weekly Spelling Words. Students will be quizzed on their Spelling Words on Friday. Attached is a list of fun spelling practice ideas.
This year your child will be asked to complete one homework project each month. The homework projects will be sent home near the beginning of the month (usually the first Monday).
In August your child only needs to read 6 nights to receive a reading award. All other months it is 20 days.
We will send home additional math practice worksheets and math games. The math games should be kept in their Math Game Folder (which will be sent home with the first game) and played throughout the year. The worksheets are optional and should not be returned.
Thank You,
Amy Stark
